MS Excel : Specify how to paste with PASTE SPECIAL
You can use Format Painter to copy formats from
from one cell to another You can also use Paste Special.
Simply copy a cell with the format you want and
then use Paste Special to paste the format into another
Cells. See Chapter 7 for more information on the format
Painter.
You can follow the same steps to copy formulas or
values of a location in your worksheet to
other. When you want to use the formula of a cell in
other cells in your worksheet, paste the formula.
When you want the results of a formula but not the
formula itself, paste the value.
You can likewise utilize Glue Extraordinary to perform basic
arithmetic operations in each cell in a range. by
example, in a price list, you may want to increase
each price at 10 percent. You can use Paste Special
to make the change quickly. Simply write 1.10 in a
cell and then select Multiply in the Paste Special
dialog box.
1 Click a cell with the format,
formula or value you want
copy.
2 Click on the Copy button.
3 Place the cursor in the cell (s)
in which you want to paste.
4 Click Paste.
A menu appears.
5 Click Paste Special.
The Paste Special dialog box
appears.
6 Click to select a Paste option
(changes to).
This example copies a formula.
7 Click OK.

8 Click on a cell with the
number by which you
want to add, subtract,
multiply or divide
9 Repeat steps 2 to 5.

Excel performs the operation you selected.

You can use the Paste link option in PasteSpecial dialog box to keep your source and
target data synchronized. If you click on the
Paste link button when pasting, when doing
changes in the source data, Excel automatically
Update the destination data.

You do not have to open the Paste Special dialog boxbox to paste formulas and values. You can choose
these options directly from the Paste menu in the
Startup tab
