MS Excel : CREATE FORMULAS that include names
Formula building can be complicated, especially
when you use several functions in the same formula
or when multiple arguments are required in a single
function. Use named constants and named ranges
can make create formulas and use functions
easier by allowing you to use terms that you have created
that clearly identify a value or range of values. A
argument is the information you provide to the function
so that the function can do its job. A constant with name is
a name that you think refers to a single, often
value used
A named range is a name
It is assigned to a group of related cells.
To insert a name in a function or use it in a
formula or as an argument of a function, you must write
access it using Use in formula in formulas
tab, or select it from the AutoComplete Function list.

1 Place the cursor on the cell inwhich one do you want to create?

2 Type the name of the constant

Note: use this technique ifyou forget the name of a
constant or range.
1 Start writing your
formula.
2 Click the Formulas tab.
3 Click Use in formula.
A menu appears.
4 Click on the constant orrange name you want
use.
If necessary, continue
writing your formula and
press Enter when
finish.
5 Press Enter.
l Excel feeds the selected constant or range
name in the formula, which then

Did you know
To create several named constants at the same time,create two adjacent columns, a list of names and
the other list of values, for example, status names
and state sales tax rates. Select both columns. Click
the Formulas tab and afterward snap Make from choice.
The Create Names dialog box from the selection appears.
Click on a checkbox to indicate which column or row you want
use for name. Click OK Click Name Manager to
View the constants listed in the Name Manager dialog box
box. Use the same procedure to create named ranges.

the cell that contains the recipe, click Formulas and
at that point click on Characterize Name.. The New Name dialog box
appears. Type a name for the formula in the Names
field, define its scope and then click OK.
